I'm a little behind on blogging but today I was taken back a few weeks when we had the wonderful priviledge of dog-sitting for some dear friends of ours,
the Bishops. Ryan, turned the big 3-0 in January (sorry Ryan, I couldn't pass it up) and his beautiful wife, Kelli, took him on a surprise trip to Carmel, CA. While on this trip they entrusted us with the care of their cocker spaniel, Wally. I must tell you about this dog. He is AMAZING. I had asked Kelli to send me a little bit about the do's and don'ts of Wally world. Kelli emailed back and we got the biggest kick out of what we read. I have copied below a portion of that email so you might see what I am talking about.
From Kelli:
He goes outside to go potty once in the morning and once at night. He’s really good about holding it, so don’t be worried about what time or anything. He gets one scoop of food in the morning and one at night. We try and keep a bowl of water out for him throughout the day. That’s it.
He likes to give kisses or “sugars”, but if you don’t want him to do it, just tell him, “No lick.”
Other commands he knows: Off, Sit, Shake, Down (to lay down), Potty, No
Also, it’s up to y’all as to what you’re comfortable with, but at night he likes to get up on the bed with us before we go to sleep. If you decide to let him do this (and don’t feel like you have to at all), just tell him, “Night, Night,” and he’ll get off the bed.
As you may have noticed, Wally loves kids--especially babies. He likes to lick them too, so just tell him no if he tries to lick Nathan or Abig
ail. He doesn’t bite, regardless of how much kids push him, lay on him or pull on his ears.
We’ll bring his crate in case you would feel more comfortable leaving him in it when you leave the house. Just tell him, “Get in your crate,” and he’ll usually do it.
Yep, that's right. And I am not kidding by any means when I say that she was not lying. He did everything exactly like she said he would. Never did I have to clean up a mess, send him outside because he was getting out of hand, wonder if he was getting into something, or wipe his feet on his way back into the house from "potty break". He was wonderful with the kids and they both loved him. Now some of you may be wondering why I am so blown away by this but we have never seen such a thing. Tory and I had dogs growing up and actually had two of our own during the first couple of years in our marriage. None of them quite like this. Anyway, thank you Ryan and Kelli for letting us play with Wally for the weekend. Know that he is always welcome in our home.
